2008 Baseball Season

Well, winter is finally over, which means baseball is starting up again. Christopher was drafted by the Pirates, so this year he and Alexander will be on the same team. They've already had practices, and the first game is scheduled for April 26 - the season opener. Good luck Christopher and Alexander, and go Pirates. I will be posting updates (hopefully weekly), so check back often.

Baseball update

Well, Christopher had a game last Saturday, and unfortunately we lost 13:19 against the Muck Dogs. Then we completed the game from the first week of the season, also against the Muck Dogs (this game was called due to darkness, with Volcanoes leading 12:9). This game was also won by the Muck Dogs, 13:12, so now the Volcanoes are 1 and 3 on the season. The next game is tonight, against the Defenders - good luck Christopher and Volcanoes, go score lots of runs tonight!

Alexander played on Saturday, and his team (teh Pirates) won 12:2 against the Giants. Great job! They also played on Monday against the Dodgers, and the game was called in extra innings due to darkness. They'll have to complete this game at some point. The score was tied 7:7. His team is still in first place, with a 5 and 1 record. Next game is tonight, against the Mets - go Pirates!

Christopher's team won last night, winning 22:8 over the River Cats. Christopher walked and scored 4 times, and had a very solid game at first base. Great job Christopher, keep it up. The Volcanoes are now 1 and 1 for the season. His next game is Saturday, good luck Christopher and Go Volcanoes!

Alexander's team also won last night, winning 5:2 over the Reds. Alexander had a single, and was thrown out once at first base (he made contact with the ball, which is great at this level - pitching is so good here!) The Pirates are now 3 and 1 for the season, and are in first place. Great job Alexander, keep it up. His next game is tonight, good luck Alexander and Go Pirates!

Christopher's first game was called early due to darkness, with his team ahead 12:9 in the bottom of the 4th inning. We'll have to complete the game at some point, and hoepfully we'll end up winning. His next game did not go as well, as the Volcanoes lost 20:5 - better luck next time, with the next game scheduled for this Wednesday.

Alexander's team played 2 more games, losing one game 6:4, and winning the other game 10:1 . So his Pirates are 2 and 1 for the season, in second place. Go Pirates. Alexander's next game is also on Wednesday, so hopefully we'll win both games!

Alexander's first game

Alexander's team had their first game today - the Pirates played against the Giants and won 10:0 - great job Pirates and Alexander. Alexander played first base, and even though he did not get a hit, he played an all around solid game - way to go. Next up are the Mets - they will play on Thursday (which is also Christopher's first game with the Volcanoes). Good luck to both, I hope you both make it to the city series this year.

Spring can only mean one thing: baseball!

Hello out there,

Kids have started baseball again; Alexander is on the Pirates (Malden West Major League team), and Christopher is on the Volcanoes (Malden West Minor League team - and I am the lucky coach!). Christopher had a scrimmage on Saturday against the Defenders, and his team won 6-3 - way to go Volcanoes and Christopher. Alexander's first game is on April 23, and Christopher's first game on April 26. I'll be reporting on how they are both doing.

Alexander's baseball season

On Monday, Alexander's team lost 6:4 against Revere, but came back to beat them the next night 5:3. Alexander received a game ball for turning a nice double play, and driving in 2 runs. Good job Alexander! His team will play one more game, most likely on Tuesday. Go get them!

Christopher's soccer team rolls on!

Last Saturday, Christopher's soccer team beat Medford by a score of 1:0, winning 2 games in a row! This was a very tough win, as Malden only had 6 kids show up for the game, meaning that all six kids needed to play the entire game (we had 5 very tired kids, plus the goalie!). This week his team faces off against Lincoln, a very tough team. Good luck Christopher.

Baseball playoffs

Alexander's team lost a heartbreaker last night, losing 9:8. His team scored 3 runs in the 6th inning to pull within one run, but the last inning wasn't played because it was too late to start another inning (league rule doesn't allow for games to continue past 8:30PM). He plays again on Monday, and his team needs to win to force a deciding third game. Go Alexander - good luck!

Alexander's baseball team won today - 9:3. His team is now 3 and 3 on the season (short season at that, with only 6 games played). Next Saturday will be a playoff game - good luck Alexander.

Christopher's soccer team won 4:3 - his team is now 1 and 3. Hopefully their first win of the season will spur them on to many more victories - go Christopher!
